Ready to make a difference in our professional community? ESAM is issuing a Call for Nominations for election to the Board of Directors. The Association is seeking independent and energetic candidates who posses the drive to bring value to our community of environmental professionals.

Doing Business with the Government of Canada (Lunch and Learn)
ESAM would like to invite its members to attend a seminar provided by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). The event will provide an overview of how the federal government procures goods and services, as well as identifying opportunities for ESAM members to provide valuable feedback on means of improving the process. Members will learn how to access free seminars, webinars and one-on-one sessions to assist members in understanding aspects of federal procurement including security clearances and finding and bidding on tenders. The presentation will also include details on the newly formed Supplier Advisory Council (SAC) and how ESAM, as a member, has become involved in collaborating with government and other industry sectors in the development of new and innovative solutions for the Government of Canada procurement process. The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) also manages the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), which assists Canadian businesses in testing their innovative goods and services before they are commercialized. Learn how you, as a member of ESAM, can land your first sale and get your innovation tested by the Government of Canada!
The events will be taking place on April 3rd, 2017 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the Maritime College of Forest Technology building located at 1350 Regent Street South in Fredericton, NB, and April 19th, 2017 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the Johnson Insurance building (2nd floor) located at 137 Venture Run in Dartmouth, NS.
There will be no fee associated with attending the session and members are asked to RSVP by March 30th for the Fredericton session and by April 17th for the Dartmouth session.
The Atlantic Biorefinery Conference is seeking applications for presentations in the areas of Biorefining and Bioprocessing. Have you been part of the design and/or implementation of a biorefinery? Are you a business or public policy expert with insights into emerging trends and technologies? Are you conducting research or building a business around transforming natural resources, adding value to waste streams, or improving efficiencies in current bioprocesses? The deadline to submit is March 16th.
Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment [May 16th - 18th]
AESAC is very excited to announce the upcoming training in Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia in spring 2017. ESAM members will receive a 10% discount off course fees if registered by April 16, 2017 (early bird $100.00 discount still applies), followed by a 5% discount thereafter – must show proof of ESAM Membership. In addition, AESAC currently offers a 30% discount off course fees to all students and recent graduates (within 6 months) - valid student ID must be provided.
Public Service and Procurement Canada Supplier Advisory Council (PSPC SAC)
ESAM is a member of the newly formed Public Service and Procurement Canada (PSPC) Supplier Advisory Council (SAC). The purpose of this advisory council is to facilitate a more regular, effective and mutually beneficial exchange of information on issues relating to the procurement of goods and services between the Government of Canada and the wider supplier community. As a regular member of SAC, ESAM will invite up to two of its’ members to accompany a board member to each meeting.
The format will be a roundtable discussion with Sarah Paquet, Assistant Deputy Minister of Procurement Modernization on procurement modernization efforts at Publics Services and Procurement Canada. Ms. Paquet will provide an update on procurement modernization initiatives, including progress on streamlining procurement processes and introducing innovative procurement tools. Participants will have an opportunity to share with Ms. Paquet their comments and recommendations on the challenges faced by the regional supplier community.

The 2016-2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy has been tabled!
It presents 13 aspirational goals that are a Canadian reflection of the environmentally related sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also includes stronger targets and indicators, new short-term milestones, and clear action plans.
As you suggested, we won't wait to update the strategy. Our new approach is to continually bring on board policy decisions as they happen. So stay tuned, as we continually add to our commitments and actions.
